3 Exciting TV Shows that you can watch in One Sitting

Everyone has lazy days when they simply want to melt into the couch and be covered with blankets; to have a coffee or a mug of hot cocoa in their hand as they turn on the TV and know that they have nothing else to do that day.

Interestingly, watching Netflix can be a very rewarding activity. Be that after a long day of work or exam season. However, sometimes you can get so swamped with deadlines that you don’t even know the recent most popular and top films. Below I have listed 3 Netflix series that are fairly short and don’t require great investment in case you have a bad attention span.

  1. Dash and Lily

2020 American romantic comedy, Dash and Lily consists of 8 roughly 25-minute episodes, making it a perfect candidate for an evening (or day) binge-watching.

Director, Joe Tracz’s, plot is based on the young adult book series Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn. The series consists of a developing teenage romance in New York between Dash and Lily, starred by Austin Abrams and Midori Francis.

The way that the two meet is nearly every bookworm’s fantasy: in a bookstore. But that’s not all, through literature. The character of Dash one day happens to discover a red notebook on the fiction shelf which he then carefully removes from the incorrect section. It is only then that he notices the writing on the front cover: “Do you dare?”

Whilst the first messages concern literature, the rest are tasks that the two request each other to complete in exchange for a piece of personal information to get to know one another. These dares include crashing a children’s Santa factory and attending a mochi-making class in addition to many more.

Inevitably Lily planted the notebook there in hope of finding a Christmas romance as her family is facing somewhat of a crisis that is preventing them from celebrating the festive holiday together. Similarly, Dash is also struggling with emotions, causing the notebook to become a miraculous match-maker for the teenagers.

Nevertheless, as you have probably guessed, things turn out to be much more difficult than they anticipated. Will they meet each other? But most importantly, if they do, will it last?

Tracz’s Dash and Lily is an incredibly heart-warming series that reminds you of the excitement of young love and is also something that you can easily watch in one sitting, be that alone or with company.

  1. You

You is an American psychological thriller, starring Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail, Victoria Pedretti, and many more. You is based on the books of Caroline Kepnes titled You and Hidden Bodies, consisting of 3 seasons (30 episodes in total), each episode between the length of 40-60 minutes.

The story revolves around the character of serial killer, Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager who falls in love with and obsesses over a customer, Guinevere Beck. Whilst this may not sound like your usual cup of tea, I can assure you that it’s a pleasant surprise for everyone.

The episodes follow Joe’s interest turning into unhealthy mania and ultimately stalking. What makes the series even more unique and captivating is its first-person narrative, meaning you get to hear and see the whole story from Joe’s perspective. You will give you an insight into Joe’s split personality as at times he appears nice, telling Beck that he will help her find the perfect job, whilst in reality, he is saturated with toxic traits.

If you are looking for excitement then You will give you that along with the cliffhangers that tempt you into watching episode after episode. However, this series does have a few trigger warnings, meaning that it contains disturbing elements such as violence (and lots of blood). Regardless, it’s still something that you can enjoy together with your spouse alongside a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.

  1. Bridgerton

Bridgerton took the world by storm—after debuting on Netflix on December 25, 2020, the 8-episode series became the most-watched series on Netflix soon after its premier with the ‘viewership of 82 million households’ according to Wikipedia.

Bridgerton is an American period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes and created by Chris Van Dusen. The American streaming series is based on Julia Quinn’s novels and the Regency era of London. In addition to following a number of wealthy families during courting season, Bridgerton also discusses the status of the families and some men’s professional poise.

The plot is based around the Bridgerton siblings—Daphne, Colin, Benedict, Anthony, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth’s upper-class lifestyle and their search for love.

Each episode includes a short narrative from the scandalous newsletter of mysterious Lady Whistledown, voiced by Julie Andrews. Does lady Whistledown really exist? And if so then why is she (or he) trying to sabotage the most popular season of London society?

Bridgerton is exciting, passionate and something definitely worth your time if you enjoy romance and historical dramas. It’s great to watch with friends or family, although I must warn you that it does contain a few saucy bits!
